What started as quirky poems on a classroom whiteboard quickly spiraled into an experimental coping mechanism.

The off-beat poems were soon accompanied by original illustrations, and thus grew into the collection of contemporary poems incandescent is today.

The evolution from belonging to denial and regret, and eventually into acceptance and progress is depicted in five chapters: home, walls, burning, ashes, and warpaint.

Written during her years of high school, author and illustrator, Kennedi Jones, explores the beauty of self-destruction as a way of overcoming the destruction itself to bring a visceral and raw acknowledgment of the human condition.
